After auditioning a pair of Yamaha's new MSP10 STUDIOS, producer Steve Levine was so impressed with the new monitors that he immediately reserved a pair from the first UK shipment for his West London studio. Steve commented, "I was hugely impressed with many aspects of the new MSP10's but most importantly the performance and that superb Yamaha build quality."
"Before I decided to go for the Yamaha's I did test many other brands on the market but in terms of a speaker that I felt very comfortable with and was easy on the ear over prolonged periods nothing came close to the MSP10's."
"I needed a monitor system that was highly accurate at both high and low monitoring levels but also , non fatiguing , rugged build. Having built in power amps means I don’t have to worry about the perfect amp / speaker combination (the wrong amp choice can have a detrimental effect on any speaker system) I need monitors capable of being worked hard over extended periods and additionally could cope with occasional accidents such as musicians unexpectedly unplugging leads without blowing the cones! The MSP10 STUDIOS fitted the bill."
"The other bonus is they offer outstanding value for money compared to their competitors and that has to be a factor in these days of tight recording and production Budgets."
"At the start of each session or when programming or setting up drums I tend to monitor a little louder than usual and the MSP's are ideal in that situation. Because they are very accurate and have that tight low end that only a ported monitor can deliver (plus I can dry hair from the huge volume of expelled air when they are driven hard)."Clearly Yamaha in Japan have worked very hard to get these right and have spent a huge amount of time tweaking these speakers, they are obsessive in their attention to detail (nearly as much as me!) and it shows." Steve is best known for his award winning work with Culture Club having worked with the band since their debut album in 1982 and more recently Steve has been completing the re-mastering of the entire Culture Club back catalogue.
The BI-amped MSP10 STUDIO monitors boast many design innovations, improved materials and significant refinements to both the midrange performance and cross over parameters and mark an evolution in nearfield speaker technology. Aimed at professional users The MSP10 STUDIO speakers feature an advanced bi-amped design, with components that are aligned with micron-tolerance, ideally matched and precisely tuned for optimum performance. The 4-ohm 8" cone woofer is driven by a 120-watt power amplifier whilst the 8-ohm 1" titanium dome tweeter has it’s own 60-watt power amplifier. This combination results in an exceptional balance between low-mid and high frequency ranges and a smooth high frequency response up to and beyond 40kHz. An integrated waveguide achieves uniform dispersion over 120 degrees making them ideal for surround monitoring.
The MSP10 Studio’s are designed to deliver accurate, uncoloured sound reproduction in demanding production situations.Line–level electronic crossovers feature steep 30dB/octave roll-off curves in both low and high-pass filters resulting in minimal inter-modulation distortion at the crossover point and a significantly smoother performance in the critical midrange. With high sample rate digital source material and ultra-accurate reproduction media becoming the norm the MSP10 Studio’s have been designed to accurately meet these new demands.
Improved materials and manufacturing techniques include a mineral – impregnated polypropylene woofer cone with low-damping rubber surround, and a magnetic shielding circuit eliminating virtually all electromagnetic fields, allowing the monitors to be positioned near recording equipment, computers and video displays.
Constructed of high quality medium density fibre the MSP10 Studio enclosure features internal bracing, a precise 2-mm edge radius and a multiple lacquer finish ensuring resonance free operation. Rear panel options feature balanced XLR inputs; an input sensitivity control and response trim switches for both woofer and tweeters. An 80Hz low cut switch is offered for when the monitors are used with the SW10 subwoofer.
