A WELSH DRAMA FOR YAMAHA

Yamaha's O2R96

04/2003

Why has the BBC's Bangor studios installed a Yamaha O2R96 digital mixing desk? That was the question put to Meredydd Morris, Senior Audio Supervisor at the studios. "I'd used a Yamaha O2R in the past and was pleased with its performance," he said. "We went for the O2R96 because we wanted to use Pro Tools © and to upgrade our present systems. It clearly met all our requirements."

Yamaha's versatile mixing desk was supplied and installed about 4 months ago by leading pro audio equipment suppliers Mediaspec, based in East Kilbride. Yamaha Commercial Audio provided initial support and on-site familiarisation training for the BBC team.

The O2R96 is being used for a variety of radio and TV productions. "We're using it a lot for TV dubbing with pro-tools software and remote layering," said Meredydd.

Radio drama productions are a key part of the Bangor studios output where thanks to the O2R96 the improvement in quality of the mike amps in drama productions has gone down very well indeed.

"Its versatility is impressive and the scene memories mean that you can easily move between projects," concluded Morris.

In short, the O2R96 has met all expectations in Bangor. No drama at all!
