bit and the calculation is made at 58-bit.
- What is the audio latency of PM5D V2?
For PM5D
V2, latency from Input to Stereo A, B is:
less than 2.3ms(@48KHz)
less than 1.15ms(@96KHz)
For PM5D V2-RH,
latency from Input to Stereo A, B is:
less than 2.5ms(@48KHz)
less than 1.25ms(@96KHz)
- How many
input channels does PM5D V2 have? Up to how many input channels could it be
expanded with DSP5D?
PM5D V2 = 48 MONO + 4 STEREO
PM5D V2 x2 = 96 MONO + 8 STEREO
PM5D V2 + DSP5D = 96 MONO + 8
STEREO
PM5D V2 + DSP5D x2 = 144 MONO + 12 STEREO
02 Connection between multiple devices
- Can multiple PM5D V2 be cascaded?
Yes, they
can. Up to four PM5D V2s can be cascaded so that the buses can be shared. As
PM5D V2 has Cascade connectors, you can easily build your system using suitable
Cascade cables.
When multiple PM5D V2 are cascaded, operations such
as Scene Store/Recall, Cue Solo and Dimmer can be interlockingly made.
- What is the DSP5D?
The DSP5D is a
digital signal processing engine for expanding the I/O capabilities of the PM5D
V2. One DSP5D provides an additional 48 mono and 4 stereo pairs of inputs
(totally 56ch), and 24 outputs.
- How
many DSP5Ds can be connected to a PM5D V2?
Up to two DSP5D
units can be cascaded to a single PM5D V2. By adding DSP5D units, the maximum
number of inputs of a PM5D V2 system is 168 channels (144 mono + 12 stereo
pairs).
As of the latest PM5D V2 firmware release,
there are several restrictions regarding the control of DSP5Ds.

- I do not own a PM5D V2.
Is it still possible to use a DSP5D?
Yes. Connect the DSP5D
to your computer with an Ethernet CAT5 cable. DSP5D can then be controlled via
DSP5D Editor installed in your computer.
- For a system using DSP5Ds, can the data of the entire system be
stored within the PM5D V2?
Yes. All data including the data
of all cascaded DSP5Ds can be stored within the memory card of the PM5D V2.
- Is it possible to use DME-N series units
in my system while I'm using DSP5Ds?
Yes, you can visually
check how to connect multiple devices indicated in:
MIXER
SETUP -> CASCADE CONNECTION -> Type Select area.
- It appears DCU5D uses EtherSound technology. Is it possible to
connect other EtherSound devices to DCU5D?
A redundant
connection can be provided by inserting the AuviTran AVRed-ES between the DCU5D
and DSP5D that are cascade-connected (via the RJ-45 connector). No other
EtherSound devices can be inserted.
You can set up the AVRed-ES with
AVS-ESMonitor; however, do not display the AVS-ES control page on AVS-ESMonitor
during the operation when devices are cascade-connected. Since operation when
the PM5D and DSP5D are cascade-connected requires all of thecommunication
bandwidth, if the AVRed-ES control page is displayed, commands between the PM5D
and DSP5D cannot be transmitted/received. This results in failing to control
the devices.
- Does the Channel Move
function made on PM5D V2 affect cascaded DSP5Ds as well?
No, the
Channel Move function only moves channels within a device.
- Can a channel on PM5D V2 and one on DSP5D be
paired?
No. The Channel Pair function can only pair
channels within the same device.
- Can
channels on PM5D V2s be DCA/Mute-grouped with channels on a cascaded
DSP5D?
Yes. Channels can be grouped regardless of the
device they reside in.
- For Comp and
EQ groups, can channels of a cascaded DSP5D be linked with channels of the PM5D
V2?
No. Both PM5D V2 and DSP5D have independent Comp and EQ
groups. Only channels within the same device can be linked together.
- How many remote head amp units can be connected to
PM5D V2?
Up to 8 units may be connected. PM5D V2 is capable
of controlling up to 8 remotely controllable head amp / A/D Converter units such
as AD8HR and AD824.
- Can I cascade a
PM5D version 1 device with a PM5D V2?
No, you can't. In
order to cascade two PM5Ds, they must be of the same version.
The V2 Updater may be downloaded free of charge from:
http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/downloads/firm_soft/pm5d/pm5dv2_
frm.html
- When PM5D V2s are
cascaded, does the number of connectable remote head amp units
increase?

controllable head amp / A/D Converter units such as AD8HR and AD824 can be
controlled. When 2 PM5D V2s are connected, the maximum number of units becomes
16.
Head amp units can be controlled only by the PM5D
V2 to which they are directly connected to. Head amp units connected to a
cascaded PM5D V2 must be controlled by the cascaded PM5D V2.
- What is the audio latency of DSP5D?
For
DSP5D, latency from Input to Stereo A, B is:
less than
2.5ms(@48KHz)
less than 1.25ms(@96KHz)
