YAMAHA COMMERCIAL AUDIO POWERS DTS TO PRESTIGIOUS HIFI SHOW AWARD

When digital entertainment specialists DTS Europe wanted to put together a very high quality home theatre demonstration room for the recent HiFi News 2006 show they asked Yamaha Commercial Audio to provide a state-of-the-art audio processing, distribution and amplification solution.

The installation, which featured a 3.3 meter wide Screen Research screen, delivered outstanding 7.1 surround sound via 18 Procella Audio speakers driven by ten Yamaha power amps; 6 x PC3301N for mid/high and 4 x PC9501N for bass.

During the show at the Renaissance Hotel, Heathrow, London, DTS' Gerben Van Duyl wowed the crowds of up to 50 people per session with surround sound and stunning music and movie demos from DTS' latest demo discs.

At the heart of the audio system was one of Yamaha’s DME64N networkable DSP processors fitted with an MY8ADDA96 I/O card which took the 7.1 outputs from the DTS decoders and split and processed them into twenty discrete channels which were fed via the rack of PC amplifiers to the Procella 8 mid/hi speakers and their associated Procella 15 bass units and LFE subs.

As well as splitting the audio signal into the relevant speaker channels, the DME64 was also used to apply cross-over, equalization and delays not only to align the highs, mids and subs within each speaker cluster but also to ensure that every cluster delivered a uniform sound to the listener, irrespective of their seat position. Result: the best home theatre in London for 3 days, resulting in the Best Demonstration in Show award from HiFi News!
